KLAUS RUCKGABER M.
Since I can remember, I’ve always been captivated by the allure of the unconventional, drawn to the flip side of things; if someone said white, I’d instinctively lean towards black. My constant pursuit of the “strange” or out-of-the-ordinary experiences often led me down unpredictable paths in life, most of the times resulting in less than favorable outcomes. However, amidst this, an interest in photography slowly grew within, which in turn offered me a constructive outlet to explore and express these unconventional experiences, to learn from them, to grow gentle instead of hostile.
The tactility in photography, particularly, holds significance in my practice. The darkroom, and its processes, have become an extension of myself. Every interaction – from the way one feels, to the physical engagement with the material– it leaves a mark on the photograph. It is a constant interaction between intention and the mysterious alchemy of photography.
In my work, I am driven by the desire to document the sides of life that are often overlooked or frowned upon, I strive looking for the beauty and significance of the unconventional.
